President Mugabe has urged indigenous Zimbabweans to control the national economy in line with the Government’s indigenisation law and regulations.

Addressing mourners at the burial of his bro-ther-in-law, Cde Bonny Brian Gumbochuma, at Kachere Farm in Concession yesterday, President Mugabe said empowerment was the only way through which Zimbabwe could realise meaningful economic development.

Cde Gumbochuma died on Saturday morning at his farm after suffering a stroke in 2004.

He was 57.

The Head of State and Government and Com-mander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces said: "Freedom yechipiri ndeyekuti mungangoti takavatanda (white farmers) asi ivo vanenge vakasiya midzi yavo.

"Vakatora maresources enyika yenyu vaine migodhi; zvese upfumi hwepasi apa, goridhe, saiko kuno uku nickel, zvese zvizere kuno neumwe hupfumi hwepasi apa.

"Upfumi zvekare hwemumasango vari ivo va-chinahwo nemakambani avo imi mongova vase-venzi . . . muchiri varanda.

"Kana musati mawana simba iroro rekuzviitira, rokuzvicherera, simba rokuti muti zvicherwa zviri pasi ndezvedu, ivhu nderedu, zviri pamusoro, masango ese ndeedu, zvikara zvesango ndezvedu; ipapo ndipo pakanga pasaririra . . . ndipo zvakare patinoti iyezvino vanaKasukuwere vana vedu takavasunugura.

"Hongu, asi tinoda kuvasiya vaine nhaka. Nyika ibve yanzi chaizvo pahupfumi hwayo hwauya mumaoko evatema," he said.

The President said people should have the intellectual freedom to control their resources and add value to the same.

"Vanhu vanofanira kuve nesimba rekuzvitonga . . . Interference with domestic affairs of another country hazvibvumirwe izvozvo.

"Hamufaniri kungoti tine ruzivo rwekuti ndiri engineer, but also say you are a driver.

"Kwete kuva neruzivo rwekuti iyi icopper iri igoridhe; asi zvakare kuzvigadzira izvozvo kuti zvikupei kuda isimbi dzikupei upfumi.

"Training people kuvapa maskills saka ndiyo third freedom iyoyo," he said.

President Mugabe said the liberation struggle was fought to bring democracy.

He said Zimbabweans, like the people of any other nation, had the right to determine their destiny without external interference as spelt out by the United Nations Charter.

"Simba rekuzvitonga kuzere riri kuUnited Nations . . . Interference in domestic affairs of another country, hazvibvumirwe izvozvo."

He called on churches to continue supporting the empowerment agenda, pointing to the way God led the children of Israel to self-determination in the Bible.

"Isu hatina kumbofa takati zvotoita hondo yeChimurenga iyi chechi dzakashata, ah, takati isu kusunungura vanhu maererano nedzidzowo yatinopihwawo muchechi yekuti vane nyika yavo ndopavakanzi naMwari vagare pavakanzi vachengete.

"Ndipo pavakanzi apa hamubvumirwe vamwe vatorwa kuti vakutorerei takazviona zvichiitwa munhoroondo yeva Israeli muhondo dzavakarwa dzimwe dzavachiri kurwa nanaPalestine.

"Saka isu tinoti kuti shoko rechechi ridzame rinzwikwe zvakanyanya . . ."

President Mugabe described the late Cde Gumbochuma as a humble person who had brought the Mugabes and Marufus closer.

"Ndivo vaiva mukuru kwandiri netsika yedu yechivanhu yeroora. Vakasvasvamhira kunoroora vepamusoro ini ndikadzika pamapazi epasi.

"Takava neukama hwakanyanya hwaive hwakasungwa neutare. Akandibatsira zvakanyanya kupinda zvakanaka mumhuri yekwaMarufu," he said.

At the time of his death, Cde Gumbochuma was an elder of the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa congregation.

Government ministers, services chiefs and Zaoga congregants attended the burial.
