Lagos, Nigeria - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has joined other world leaders in condemning Friday's bomb blast in Nigeria that killed eight people and left 18 injured close to the venue of the celebration of the country’s Golden Jubilee Anniversary in Abuja.
A statement posted on the UN Radio's website on Saturday said Ban was was particularly sad as the blast came on the day Nigerians were celebrating the 50th anniversary of their independence from Britain.
He expressed his sincere sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Nigeria and the bereaved families.
The UN Secretary-General assured the people and government of Nigeria of the support of global body as they seek to address the challenges confronting the West African nation.
He said the UN identified in particular the challenge of consolidating the significant gains made in promoting democratic governance and improving the welfare of all Nigerians.
