Hundreds rally in SF mark anniversary of the Occupy movement

Hundreds rallied in San Francisco on Monday evening to mark the anniversary of the grass-roots Occupy Wall Street movement.
As many as 500 marchers in the financial district blocked streets and rallied for an end to financial inequality.
The rally commemorated those held one year ago, on Sept. 17 in New York City's financial district, when demonstrators protested big banks and started worldwide protests.
Earlier Monday, Occupy Wall Street protesters marched around Manhattan's financial district. As many as 100 were arrested.
Activists planned a number of events throughout the day in San Francisco, culminating with a large march in the evening where a "debt burning" festival and demonstrations at banks were planned.
Several Muni lines were re-routed to avoid the protests.
In the East Bay, protesters rallied at the Wells Fargo Bank at the downtown Berkeley BART station.
In Davis, about 50 protesters were in front of a Monsanto plant in Davis this morning, saying they want to shut down the local office of the multinational biotechnology company.
In March, protesters staged a similar protest. At that time, the Missouri-based company decided not to open its Davis office and did not make anyone available for comment.
Davis police were monitoring the situation about 7 a.m. today as protesters sat, stood and paced outside Monsanto. Demonstrators had one driveway to the Monsanto complex partially blocked with yellow caution tape.
Events are planned in more than 30 cities worldwide.
